What can I do if homework has been set by mistake?
It is not possible to fully delete homework that has already been handed out but you can change the status of it to Optional only, and exclude these topics from appearing in future homework.
Convert a Compulsory homework to Optional Only
Changing a Compulsory homework to an Optional only homework will remove the compulsory tasks that have been set for your students, while still allowing students to access XP Boost, Target and Independent Learning.
Please note this button will only be visible for Compulsory homework that has already been handed out.
1. Go to Planner and select the week you want to change to Optional only. This will only be possible for weeks where the homework has already been set.
2. Click on the Change to optional only button:
3. Choose if you want to change the homework for the whole class:
4. Or if you want to select individual students to change:
- Changing a homework to Optional only cannot be undone, and you will not be able to set a replacement homework in the same week
- Optional Only homework will not be counted towards your homework completion rates
Changing a homework to Optional only will cause the following changes:
For teachers
- The homework will no longer be required for your students and will be treated as Optional only for the purposes of reporting throughout Sparx Maths including the Dashboard, Reports, Leaderboards, Incomplete Homework, Student Summary and Homework Statistics pages
- This change will also be indicated on the Planner and the Hand in Page
- It will not be possible to see any data for this homework on the Insights Page even if students have done some or all of the work
- If they have not already been sent, teacher emails will not be sent regarding this homework
For students
- The compulsory tasks that were set as part of this homework will be locked, with a message explaining that they no longer need completing
- Any XP that the students have earned on the compulsory tasks will be saved
- Any students currently working on a compulsory package will be notified that it is no longer required
- Students will still be able to access XP Boost, Targets and Independent Learning
For parents
- If they have not already been sent, parent emails will not be sent regarding this homework
- Parents or guardians following the 'Show live homework summary' link in the parent emails will see that the compulsory homework has been cancelled
