Why is the time shown on my Sparx site different to how long the student spent?

        Article summary

Sparx aims to calculate the time a student spends actively working on their homework by adding up time spent answering questions or watching videos. Working time shown therefore, for example on the Hand in Page, does not simply show the time they logged in until the time they logged out. The timer is paused after long periods of inactivity, and it does not count time that a student spends idle on the task screen, looking at their XP or playing mini-games.

If a student or parent claims they spent a lot longer on their homework than you're seeing on your Sparx site, it could be that they were doing something else at the same time and not concentrating fully on their homework, or that they had a break in the middle.

For a 60 minute compulsory homework, we expect an average of 45-50 minutes of working time.
