Because calculator models and types can vary the one we use in our Sparx videos may look a bit different to the one chosen by your students.
Our support videos for questions requiring a calculator are primarily based on Casio calculators, and we advise teachers to be prepared for slight differences if their students use other brands.
For example:
- In our iteration videos, we tell students to press the “Ans” button, but on Sharp calculators, they would need to press SHIFT+= to get this function.
- Videos for questions requiring multiple steps may show answers to intermediate calculations in surd form to match the Casio display. Other calculators may show these answers as decimals.
We don't provide a calculator for students to use in our software because we recommend that students use the calculator that they'll use in their exams so that they can get used to that model. If the student does not have a calculator and cannot borrow one from school, a free scientific calculator can be accessed online.
