What is mixed topic practice?
Mixed topic practice (MTP) is a Task that contains questions on two or more topics
- These questions are intentionally interleaved with each other to challenge the student by 'context switching'
- MTP is typically seen in the Consolidation section of homework, but can appear in the main body of the homework too
Some students could see a topic in MTP whilst others may not
There are three different sets of questions within each topic level:
- Introduce
- Strengthen
- Deepen
Introduce questions contain the key skills that a student needs to understand for the topic and as such will always be delivered together in sequence in a homework.
Students who are confident with the Introduce topics
If a student has previously completed the Introduce questions for the topic with a degree of confidence* then they could see Strengthen and Deepen questions in MTP. These questions will be interleaved with other topics.
*e.g. they haven't struggled, answering questions wrong multiple times and using videos a lot.
Students who are not confident with the Introduce topics
If a student has struggled with the Introduce questions for a topic in the past this can mean we set the Introduce again when it comes back in Consolidation. Because these questions come in a sequence they would not be interleaved with other topics as MTP
How can I see what topics have been given?
If you hover your mouse over the Mixed Topic Practice heading, it will show you what topics the student has been set.
