Using School Group Reports

      Using School Group Reports

        Article Summary

School Group Reports are bespoke spreadsheets that detail homework completion across the school group.

        What are School Group Reports?

        • The School Group Report is a bespoke spreadsheet for each School Group that Sparx generates weekly, allowing you to see the homework completion of every school, year group and class in the School Group.
        • The School Group Reports are sent out every Monday during UK term times to Trust Directors.
        • Schools, Year groups and Classes are ranked based on the amount of compulsory Sparx Maths Homework that was completed on time by students in the previous week.

What information is displayed in the School Group Reports?

The following information is displayed on the “School”, “Year groups” and “Classes” sheets within the School Group Report spreadsheet.

        • School - The School name
        • Year group - The year group name [“Year group” and “Classes” sheet only]
        • Class - The Class name [“Classes” sheet only]
        • Rank - The position of the School, Year group or Class in the school group, based on highest Compulsory homework completion for homework due in the most recent Monday - Sunday week.
        • Compulsory rate at deadline - The percentage of students who fully completed their Compulsory homework on time, for homework that was due within the last week.
        • 0% at deadline - The percentage of students that had 0% of their Compulsory homework completed by the deadline, for homework that was due within the last week.
        • 0% to 50% at deadline - The percentage of students that had completed more than 0% but less than 50% of their Compulsory homework by the deadline, for homework that was due within the last week.
        • 50% to 100% at deadline - The percentage of students that had not fully completed their Compulsory homework on time but had completed 50% or more by the deadline, for homework that was due within the last week.
        • Last week completion rate - The percentage of students who fully completed their Compulsory homework on time, for homework that was due within the previous report week.
        • Last 3 weeks avg. - The average compulsory completion rate over the previous three homework weeks. Any week without a homework due is excluded from this calculation and the previous week is included instead. If there have been less than three homework weeks over the past academic year the average includes all possible homework weeks.
        • Highest rate in current academic year - The highest compulsory completion rate the school, year group or class has had in the current academic year, including the current week.
        • Highest rank in current academic year - The highest rank within the school group that the school, year group or class has achieved in the current academic year, including the current week. Note: As rank is relative to the position of other groups at the time of the report this data is not backfilled. Thus, the rank is not calculated for weeks prior to the school being included in the School Group report.
        • Classes with compulsory homework due - The number of classes that had compulsory homework due within the report week. [“School” and “Year group” sheets only]
        • Classes with optional-only homework due - The number of classes that did not have compulsory homework due within the report but had XP Boost and Target homework due.  [“School” and “Year group” sheets only]
        • Classes with no homework due - The total number of classes that are included in the school MIS/CSV upload but did not have homework due within the report week, either because homework is not enabled for the class or homework was turned off in the report week.  [“School” and “Year group” sheets only]
        • Students with compulsory homework due - This is the total number of distinct students that had compulsory homework due within the report week.
        • Students with optional-only homework due - This is the total number of distinct students that did not have compulsory homework due within the report but had XP Boost and Target homework due.
        • Students with no homework due -This is the total number of distinct students that had no homework due within the report week. A student is included in this count if:
        • Avg. set HW time - The average length of compulsory homework due within the report period, in minutes.
        • Location - The town the school is located in (for UK schools only).  [“Schools” sheet only]
        • % FSM - The percentage of students that have received free school meals at any point within the last 6 years, according to 2021-2022 UK Government KS4 data.
        • Compulsory Rate Delta - The impact an improvement to the school, year group or class compulsory rate would have on overall compulsory rates can be tested within this column. An improvement should be entered in this column such that the current compulsory rate + the compulsory rate delta do not exceed 100%.
        • New Compulsory Rate - The new compulsory rate for the school, Year group or class in this week if the improvement in the previous column was achieved.
        • School Group Rate - The new overall compulsory rate of the School Group or School in this week if the improvement in Compulsory Rate Delta (%) was achieved.

There is also a “School Group Leaderboard” sheet which shows how your School Group completion rates compare to other School Groups with Sparx Maths. Please see Using Homework Leaderboards for more information on the data within this sheet.

        Frequently asked questions

What year groups are included in the Leaderboards?

All of the year groups that use Sparx in each school are included in the Leaderboards.

The student counts don’t match between the different sheets. Why is this?

At a school and year group level the student counts are distinct students. Thus, if a student has been in multiple classes during the week then they will only count once.

On the Class level sheet a student will be shown in the row for every class where:

        • They were in a class on the date that homework was due for that class
        • They were in a class that did not set homework on the last day of the report week

Thus, if students have moved classes during the week then the class student counts won’t necessarily sum to the counts shown on the School and Year group tab.

        How is rank calculated?

The leaderboard is ranked by the compulsory completion rate.

Why can't I see all the schools in my Trust?

If you know of schools that use Sparx but aren't on the leaderboard, then it's probably the case that they have opted out.

Why is there no data for a certain school in this week’s report?

If no information is showing next to the names of certain schools, the likelihood is they've had no homework set for that particular week.

Do the homework completion percentages only count towards the weekly leaderboard figure if they score 100%? Or is there some lower threshold that still counts?

Sparx Homework is considered incomplete unless every question is answered correctly.

What is the cut-off time for the homework to be classed as on-time in order for it to be counted on the leaderboard?

When the School group Reports are generated we only consider the most recent homeworks that have hit the deadline before the leaderboard is sent on a Monday UK time. This means only homework due from the previous Monday until the Sunday before is included, if hand in is before midnight on a Sunday UK time.

The cut off time for homework to be considered on-time is your hand-in time on the due date.

For example, if your school or class has a hand-in day of Thursday and hand-in time of 4pm, then any homework completed before 4pm on that day will be considered on time and will be included in the following Monday’s leaderboard stats.
