Using Homework Leaderboards in the Hand-in Summary report

        Article summary

School vs school homework completion leaderboards are available within the Hand-in Summary report in Sparx Maths.

What is the Hand-in Summary report?

The Hand-in Summary Report is accessible via the reporting page on your Sparx site, and provides a detailed overview of homework completion for the previous week from Monday to Sunday, focusing on compulsory homework tasks. It includes a class-by-class and school-by-school breakdown with several key metrics:

        • The number of students in each class or school.
        • The number of compulsory homeworks set.
        • The compulsory on-time completion rate.
        • The compulsory on-time no completion/non-starter rate.
        • The compulsory on-time low completer rate (students who have completed some but less than or equal to 50% of their homework).

The compulsory on-time nearing completion rate (students who have completed over half but not all of their homework).

This report also includes a school tab, showing similar completion information, as well as a percentile rank, and a trend compared to the other schools using Sparx Maths.

If you do not wish to be included on the Sparx Leaderboard
Please let us know at schoolsupport@sparx.co.uk. You will still have the Hand-In Summary Report to view your whole school class completion but you will not be included on the Schools tab.

What information is displayed in the Schools tab on the Hand-in summary report?

The following information is displayed on the “Schools” sheet within the Hand-in Summary report.

        • School - The School name
        • UK Town - The town the school is located in (for UK schools only)
        • %ile rank - percentile rankings split into 10% increments up to 90%, and 1% increments above 95%, providing the lower bound of group your school falls into. For example, a rank of 57% would be expressed as '50th percentile'.
        • Trend - The difference between last week's and this week’s rank.
        •  Students in school - The number of students that had homework due within the last week.
        • Compulsory HW set - The number of students across the school for whom a compulsory homework was set.
        • On time completion - % of homeworks completed by the deadline
        • No completion - 0% completion by the deadline
        • Low completion - 0-50% completion by the deadline
        • Nearing completion - 50-99% completion by the deadline

        Frequently asked questions

What year groups are included in the Hand-in summary report?

All of the year groups that use Sparx in each school are included in the Leaderboards.

Why is my student number wrong on the Hand-in summary report?

The student count is done by students with homework switched on, so it may be that you have some classes with homework switched off or students set to optional only. If that's not the case then please get in touch.

        How is rank calculated?

The schools leaderboard sheet is ranked by the compulsory completion rate. Students on Optional Only will not affect the data in this column.

Why can't I see all the other Sparx schools in my Trust on the schools sheet of the hand-in summary report?

If you know of schools that use Sparx but aren't on the schools leaderboard, then it's probably the case that they have opted out.

Why can’t I see data from my school in this week’s hand-in summary report?

If no information is showing next to the names of certain schools, the likelihood is they've had no homework set for that particular week.

Where has the Weekly Leaderboard email gone?

Great news - now the school leaderboard can be found on-demand on your school Sparx Maths site in the Hand-In Summary report. As a result of this change, we will no longer be sending school leaderboards by email on a weekly basis.
