Syncing classes towards the end of the academic year

Syncing classes towards the end of the academic year

        Article summary

This article is for schools that have an MIS connection with Sparx

For most of the academic year, we'll automatically sync changes from your school's MIS overnight, but we pause these automatic updates towards the end of each academic year because:

        • Many schools start adding next year's classes into their MIS before the end of the academic year, and
        • If we were to sync these changes to Sparx this could result in current classes and students being removed too early

We'll send you a notification in your Sparx Maths site when we pause the sync.

If you want any changes made in your MIS to be reflected in Sparx Maths during the pause, choose the option below that best fits your circumstances for instructions on what to do.

If next year's classes haven't been set up in your MIS yet

If you're happy that your MIS still correctly reflects your class and student lists for the current academic year, you can run a manual sync whenever you need to pull changes across from your MIS e.g. if students move classes. See Adding and updating classes/students (using the connection to your MIS) for guidance on running a manual sync.

If next year's classes have been set up in your MIS and you want to start using them now

Some schools start their teaching for the new academic year once teaching for the current academic year is complete. In these cases, we recommend that you contact us to request that we move your Sparx site to your new academic year early (for most UK schools, this happens on 31st August by default). This will allow you to complete the setup of your Sparx site for the new year, and start setting homework against next year's schemes of learning, early.

Important things to be aware of if we move your school to the new academic year early

        • Your Sparx site will be reset, so all of this year's classes (including the hand-in data for those classes) will no longer be visible
        • Students won't be able to log in to Sparx until you import next year's classes
        • You'll need to ensure that you've created schemes of learning for (or copied this year's schemes to) next academic year. See Creating a scheme of learning for more information.

Important things to be aware of if you choose to import next year's classes into the current academic year

        • Your Sparx site will move to the new academic year automatically on 31st August which will mean that you have to set up your classes and students again, and any homework history prior to 31st August will no longer be visible in your Sparx site.
        • If next year's classes have the same names as this year's classes, the classes will become merged in Sparx, meaning that any consolidation homework set for the class in this academic year will also apply to any students new to the class. This means that new students could see consolidation homework for topics that they haven't yet been taught.
