How might I use Sparx during school closures?
Helpful tips on how to get the best out of Sparx Maths during school closures and other significant events.
Check that the Sparx student login works at your school
Most schools have a firewall in place that protects their networks and devices from unauthorised access. To make sure that Sparx works smoothly on your network and devices you may need to make some changes to your firewall settings.
You can use this helpful article for advice on how to check it will work as expected. Please contact your IT team if there are any issues with your firewall.
Changing homework dates
You can adjust upcoming homework in the Planner for your class. You can select a week and adjust both the hand-out date and time, and the hand-in date and time. In order to maintain good completion rates, we would advise against setting your hand-in date to coincide with any planned disruption.
Incomplete homework
Previous incomplete homework is a great backlog of work that students can be working through in their own time. Homework is available to work on for up to 6 weeks after it has been set, after which it will no longer show for students.
Optional homework tasks
Each homework that is set for students will include optional personalised homework tasks called XP Boost and Target. These tasks are specifically designed to provide additional materials around topics they have seen in their homework, as well as specific questions designed to support or stretch students on certain topics.
Independent learning
Independent learning is an area available for all students to practise any of the topics that Sparx has to offer. Students can freely choose to search and work on any topic, and you can monitor what they are doing by going to the Management menu on the left of your Sparx site and selecting Independent Learning.
The Insights page is a great place to view topics that your class has been struggling with recently, and provides associated topic codes that you could use to direct your students in Independent Learning.
