        Changing a class’s homework length

            Article summary

            It is possible to change homework length for a class in two ways:

            Change homework length as a one-off

            1. Go to Planner 
            2. Select the class whose homework you wish to edit from the filters at the top of the screen
            3. Click on the week you want to edit
            4. Click the Homework Length dropdown and choose how long you wish the homework to be

            • Making changes to the length of homework for a particular week in Planner will not affect any other week's homework length.

            Change a class' normal homework length

            Before you change your homework length consider, for maximum impact on student outcomes, our research, verified by Cambridge University shows that actively working in Sparx Maths is positively and significantly associated with higher outcomes in Maths, and in fact, completing the recommended one hour of homework per week for one whole school year on average yields a 0.24 level improvement in GCSE grades.

            To change the normal homework length for one or more classes:

            1. Go to Management (in the blue menu bar on the left of your screen)
            2. Go to Class Manager
            3. Select the classes you wish to change the Default Homework Length for by clicking the checkboxes on the left
            4. Select Edit Selected Classes
            5. Select the Default Homework length dropdown menu
            6. Choose the length of time you want to apply to the classes
            7. Select Save

            If you change the class homework length, you might need to adjust the number of topics per week in your SoL or Planner to make sure students get the topics they need to see:

            • 60 Minute homework: 3 topics
            • 30 Minute homework: 1-2 topics
